Clay Hutson: A Tour Managing Success

Clay Hutson may be best known as the man behind the awesome concert you just went to. If you’re a fan of Prince, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns n’ Roses, Pink, and Billy Graham, you have definitely been to an event where he is the production manager. He is also the currently working with Halsey, involved in various production roles to ensure an excellent experience for the viewers.

 

Mr. Hutson is very passionate about his craft. Having spent over 20 years working behind the scenes, he describes himself as a perfectionist in all production details. He enjoys working all the stages of production, bit by bit, and making sure that all strings are pulled together to create a wonderful show.

 

 

Recent Successes

One of his recent successful events was the DiGiCo’s very first SD11 console debut. The tour was headed by Staind frontman Aaron Lewis, who just released his country-inspired solo album called Town Line. Mr. Lewis has performed in several concerts ranging from 700-seater functions to crowds of 50,000 contained in arenas. Clay Hutson performed several roles in this event as he was involved in the sound engineering and tour managing of Mr. Lewisunder DiGiCo.

 

Another successful ongoing event where Mr. Hutson managed several aspects of safe production was in OneRepublic’s Honda Civic Tour. Not only sponsored by a big car company, top performers One Republic were also high profile musicians in the industry. He was assigned to make sure that all rigs and LED sets were safely attached, but still meets the idea and design meant for the tour production.

 

Previous events that occurred during the summer were DiGiCo’s SD7 systems installed for the summer tours by artists such as Rihanna, Eminem, Jay-Z, and U2. These artists are provided with the best tools in sound engineering offered by Clay Hutson and his team.

 

Mr. Hutson also provides services as an arena rigger in several event centers: Bridgestone Arena, Music City Center, Opryland Convention Center, Palace of Auburn Hills, Joe Louis Arena, Van Andel Arena, and Saginaw Civic Center.

 

 

Passion is the Answer

When asked about what makes his successful, his answer is simple: “Passion in what you do and attention to detail.” Mr. Hutson believes that if you love what you’re doing, you will keep on getting better until you have worked your way to the top.
