The Family Place, which received the $1 million dollar challenge in hopes of raising awareness and funds for the cause, has currently finished the $16.5 million Capital Campaign. The Family Place has built shelters for those who suffer from family violence and really has helped find care and hope for the many affected by such acts.
The Dallas Zoo is also a beneficiary of James Dondero’s Philanthropy and has received a 1 million dollar donation from Highland Capital Management. This donation in particular was well received in Dallas by many interested in the Dallas Zoo. The 4,485 square foot Highland Hippo Hut was named after the group, and is very well received in the city. Used for private and public events, there is also a special education aspect to the Highland Hippo Hut that many are thankful for.
All in all, James Dondero is more Philanthropist than businessman to many. His contributions to Dallas are immeasurable, with only a few mentioned in this article.
